Gardens by the Bay Closes Part of Its Cycling Route, Here's What You Need to Know

If your usual weekend ride cuts through the Waterfront Promenade at Gardens by the Bay on the way to Marina Barrage, there's a change worth noting. Since 4 May 2026, cyclists no longer have access along that stretch of the promenade. The closure supports construction of a new bridge that will connect Bay South Garden and Bay East Garden.

Whether this route is part of your morning workout, a weekend family outing, or simply your favourite spot to unwind near the Supertrees, it's worth adjusting your plans before you head out.

What Changed From 4 May 2026

Route diversion map

The official advisory from Gardens by the Bay confirms there is no access for cyclists along the Waterfront Promenade from 4 May 2026. The closure is temporary and will remain in place while construction of the bridge linking Bay South and Bay East Garden is underway.

Cyclists heading towards Marina Barrage are now directed to an alternative route around the perimeter of Bay South Garden. It's a slightly longer loop, but still smooth to ride and free of major obstacles.

This shift affects more than just serious road cyclists. Leisure riders, families cycling with young children, and tourists who rent bikes around the Marina Bay area should also take note so the change doesn't catch them off guard mid-ride.

Pedestrians Can Still Walk Through

The good news is that if you're visiting on foot, the promenade remains accessible. There's only a slight diversion from the route you'd normally take. So if an evening stroll and a few photos by the waterfront are on your agenda, you can still enjoy it much like before.

That said, give yourself a bit of extra time, especially if you're pushing a stroller, accompanying elderly family members, or visiting for the first time. It's best to follow the on-site directional signs rather than relying on the route you remember, since a few points along the way have shifted.

A Change to the Children's Garden Entrance

Aside from the cycling closure, there's another change worth keeping in mind if you're visiting with kids. The entrance to the Far East Organization Children's Garden, previously located along the Waterfront Promenade, has been closed since 26 March 2026. Visitors are now directed to a new entrance near the Sun Pavilion instead.

If your usual plan combines water play at the Children's Garden with a picnic at Marina Barrage or a stop at Flower Dome, build this entrance change into your itinerary. Kids tend to get restless the moment they arrive, so knowing the right way in beforehand saves you from wandering around under the midday sun.
