How to Move Between Terminals at KLIA Airport

Written by Ganjar

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has two main terminals: KLIA1 and KLIA2. These terminals are a few kilometers apart, so walking between them isn’t an option.

Luckily, there are several transportation options available to get you from one terminal to the other. Some are free, while others require a fee. Just pick the one that works best for you.

Here’s a guide to the three main ways to travel between the terminals:

1. KLIA Ekspres or KLIA Transit

The fastest and easiest way to move between KLIA1 and KLIA2 is by taking the KLIA Ekspres or KLIA Transit train. It only takes 3 minutes to travel between the two terminals.

To catch the train, head to the station at either KLIA1 or KLIA2. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket machines or counters for just RM 2 per trip.

Once you’ve got your ticket, proceed to the departure platform. Trains run every 15 minutes during busy hours and every 20 minutes during quieter times. Don’t worry about missing a specific train—any train will stop at both terminals.

When the train arrives, hop on and grab any available seat, as tickets don’t have assigned seating. If no seats are open, you can stand, as the journey is very short.

2. Free Shuttle Bus

If you’re looking for a free option, KLIA provides a shuttle bus service between KLIA1 and KLIA2. This is a great choice if you’re not in a rush, as the journey takes longer compared to the train.

To catch the shuttle bus, head to the bus departure area. Try to arrive a few minutes early, as buses leave on a set schedule. You’ll usually find the timetable displayed nearby, so you can plan accordingly.

The shuttle bus runs every 20 minutes and follows a route between KLIA1, KLIA2, and Mitsui Outlet Park. It’s spacious enough to carry luggage, so there’s no need to worry if you have large suitcases or extra bags.

3. Taxi or Grab

If you’re looking for a hassle-free option, especially when you’re carrying a lot of luggage, taking a taxi or Grab is your best bet. It’s also a great choice if you’re traveling with family or kids.

To book a taxi or Grab, head to the taxi pick-up area at either KLIA1 or KLIA2. You can arrange a taxi at the counter or use a ride-hailing app for Grab.

The ride takes around 10 minutes. While it’s a bit slower than the train, it gives you more flexibility to choose where you want to be dropped off at the terminal.

Those are the three main ways to travel between KLIA1 and KLIA2. Pick the option that works best for your schedule and preferences!
