The Function of the SSR Code on Your Airplane Boarding Pass

Written by Ganjar

Besides the "Seq" code I've talked about before, there's another unique code on your flight boarding pass: the SSR code, which stands for Special Service Request.

The SSR code is usually printed in a smaller font and often placed at the bottom of the boarding pass, so not all passengers notice it.

What is an SSR Code?

The SSR (Special Service Request) code is used by airlines to record special requests from passengers who need extra assistance or services during their trip.

This code helps airline staff quickly identify and fulfill these special needs. Staff will match the SSR code on the boarding pass with their system to avoid any mix-ups.

The SSR code typically consists of a 4-letter combination. Each airline creates its own codes, so only the staff of that particular airline know what they mean. However, some SSR codes are common across different airlines.

When will the SSR code appear on your boarding pass? It shows up if you make a special request or need a service when buying your ticket or checking in. These codes cover a variety of requests, including:

  • Mobility Assistance

Passengers who need a wheelchair, cane, or other help to get on and off the plane and move around the airport.

  • Medical needs

Passengers who need supplemental oxygen, special medications, or other medical attention during the flight.

  • Special Dietary Requirements

Passengers with special diets, food allergies, or specific food preferences (like vegetarian or kosher meals).

  • Traveling with Infants or Young Children

Passengers traveling with infants or young children who may need special seating, baby food, or other assistance.

  • Traveling with Pets

Passengers with pets who need information on pet transportation requirements and other assistance.

  • Passengers with Hearing or Visual Impairments

Passengers who need special assistance to communicate or move around the airport and aircraft.
