Marina South just became the site of a groundbreaking for what's being billed as Asia's largest wellness attraction. It's called Therme Singapore, a 720,000 square foot spa and waterpark complex built to change the way you unwind.
The SGD 1 billion project is being developed by Therme Group, a name European travellers will recognise from Therme Bucharest and Therme Erding, two of the continent's biggest spas.
After winning the tender from the Singapore Tourism Board, the company is now working with DP Architects on a seven storey building sitting on 4 hectares of land, right next to Marina Barrage and Gardens by the Bay.
If you're still picturing Therme Singapore as just another spa, think again. The attraction is split into three zones, and each one has its own character.
There's Play, built with families in mind, complete with children's pools, interactive water play areas, and 18 water slides that add up to more than 1.8 kilometres in total.
If you're after something more low-key, Relax offers thermal pools, mineral baths, hydromassage beds, and infrared therapy. Then there's Restore, the zone for properly switching off, with saunas, steam rooms, and over 70 treatment rooms.
The whole space is kept at a warm 30°C, so you get that European onsen feel without having to fly halfway around the world for it.

Beyond the water attractions, nature is just as central to Therme Singapore's design. Expect more than 20 indoor and outdoor pools and water features, surrounded by over 200,000 plants from more than 200 species, including orchids and native Southeast Asian greenery.
The complex will also hold more than 86,000 square feet of dining and social spaces overlooking the water, plus a new four hectare public coastal park connecting the precinct to Marina Barrage to add fresh green space to Singapore's southern waterfront.
On the tech side, you'll be relying on a waterproof RFID wristband for locker access and cashless payments. Robotic locker systems and ozone based water filtration round things out, in line with the sustainability commitment that's one of Therme Group's core pillars.
Even though the overall concept draws heavily from Europe's spa culture, Therme Singapore is still working local flavour into the mix. Exclusive treatments inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine and Javanese massage are expected to be part of the lineup, blending Western and Eastern wellness traditions under one roof.

Construction kicked off in the third quarter of 2026, with the doors set to open to the public in 2030. Once fully operational, the project is expected to draw around two million visitors a year, with roughly half of them flying in from overseas.
Ticket prices haven't been announced yet, but Therme Group has said keeping things affordable and accessible is a priority.
Marina South is clearly having a moment right now. Wetlands by the Bay, just nearby, is set to open earlier in 2028, so you won't have to wait all the way until 2030 for something new in the area.
While Therme Singapore takes shape, keep the date in mind and start planning your visit for whenever this massive wellness destination finally throws its doors open.
