6 Recommended Tourist Attractions in Hong Kong

Written by Syfa

My husband and I had never really thought about visiting Hong Kong. For some reason, China and its nearby regions just didn’t catch our interest.

However, when we got the chance, we decided to go for it! And wow, Hong Kong turned out to be incredibly exciting! From towering skyscrapers and bamboo scaffolding to double-decker buses and the bustling crowds, there was so much to see and experience.

As first-timers, we were thrilled to explore this new destination together. It’s safe to say Hong Kong has become a core memory for us. If it’s your first time visiting too, here are some must-visit spots in Hong Kong—besides Disneyland, of course!

1. Victoria Peak Tram

First on the list is the Victoria Peak Tram. Make sure to include this in your travel plans. This iconic attraction offers not just a one-of-a-kind experience but also breathtaking views that feel almost magical.

The tram first started running on May 30, 1888, making it one of the oldest cable car systems in the world and the first in Asia. Initially, it was meant only for the wealthy and colonial officials.

Over time, with advancements in design and technology, the tram opened to the public and has become a must-visit for anyone traveling to Hong Kong.

Curious about how to get there, the cost, what you can find at The Peak, and the overall experience? Check out the details in the article below:

2. Madame Tussauds Hong Kong

While you're at The Peak Tower, don't miss Madame Tussauds. It's great because you can visit two attractions in one go.

Madame Tussauds Hong Kong is part of the famous chain of wax museums featuring lifelike wax figures of celebrities, historical icons, musicians, and more.

You can snap photos with wax replicas of international stars like Taylor Swift, Jackie Chan, and political figures such as Barack Obama.

The museum also features a special section dedicated to Asian celebrities, including Bruce Lee and well-known K-pop stars. Perfect for photo ops and a bit of starstruck fun, this stop is a fun addition to your visit to The Peak!

3. Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car

Next up, for an equally thrilling experience, try the Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car! Although it's about an hour away from the city center, near the airport, the journey is well worth it thanks to Hong Kong's excellent public transport.

The cable car runs between Tung Chung and Ngong Ping Village over a 5.7-kilometer route, giving us stunning views of the South China Sea, Lantau Island, and Hong Kong International Airport.

Once you reach Ngong Ping Village, there’s plenty to explore. Don’t miss the Giant Buddha (Tian Tan Buddha) and Po Lin Monastery. The village itself is quite large, with souvenir shops, restaurants, and even hiking trails leading to the Buddha statue.

4. Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade & Avenue of Stars

The Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade is the perfect spot to take in the breathtaking sights of Victoria Harbour. You can enjoy a relaxed walk while admiring the impressive skyscrapers of Hong Kong Island.

One of the highlights here is the Avenue of Stars, which celebrates the Hong Kong film industry. Here, you can see handprints of famous actors and actresses, and of course, the iconic statue of Bruce Lee.

The best time to visit the promenade is in the evening when the Symphony of Lights show illuminates the skyline. This spectacular light and sound display is recognized as the world's largest and is a must-see in Hong Kong.

5. Ladies' Market

If you're looking for souvenirs, consider the Ladies' Market in Mong Kok. This market is a place for an array of items like clothes, accessories, bags, and other keepsakes, all at budget-friendly prices.

There are plenty of other shops surrounding this bustling street market, so be sure to set aside plenty of time—and energy (not to mention money)—because there’s a lot to see and buy. I even popped into GU, a Japanese fashion brand, since it was just around the corner.

6. Nan Lian Garden

Nan Lian Garden was the highlight of my trip before flying back to Jakarta. My husband and I visited this serene garden a day before our flight, and it was the perfect way to relax after our busy Macau adventure. Honestly, I think it’s the prettiest garden in Hong Kong!

This beautifully designed oasis offers a peaceful escape from Hong Kong's fast-paced city life. The garden reflects the classic Tang Dynasty style, with pavilions, koi ponds, and perfectly arranged landscapes.

It’s like experiencing a traditional Chinese garden with a modern cityscape as the backdrop—a true Hong Kong vibe.

Every corner of Nan Lian Garden is thoughtfully designed to create a calming atmosphere. There’s even a souvenir shop inside, where you can find not only trinkets but also a variety of traditional teas. Tea lovers will definitely enjoy checking out the selection!

To make the experience even better, the garden is right next to Chi Lin Nunnery. The combination of natural beauty and cultural elements makes this place an ideal spot to unwind and soak in Hong Kong’s unique charm.
