3 Ways to Locate Your Train Platform in Indonesia

Written by Ganjar

Knowing which platform your train will depart from is crucial, especially when you're at a station with multiple platforms. It's important to be aware of this information so that you don't accidentally board the wrong train.

In this article, we'll explore three simple methods for determining your train's departure platform.

1. Check the Information Screen

The easiest way to find out your train's departure platform is by looking at the information screens in the station. These screens are generally positioned in high-traffic areas like the entrance, waiting rooms, and other key spots.

They display details about upcoming departures, including the platform number and the departure time for each train. Always take a moment to find your train's information on these screens so you know where to go.

2. Pay Attention to Announcements

While waiting at the station, keep an ear out for announcements. Sometimes, trains scheduled to stop at a certain platform might switch to another due to technical issues or other reasons.

In such cases, the station staff will keep passengers informed by making announcements over the loudspeakers. These announcements typically come a few minutes before the train arrives and may be repeated shortly after its arrival.

Moreover, these announcements often include information about the composition of the train, such as the ordering of its cars.

For example, they might state that cars 1-4 are for economy class, cars 5-6 are for business class, and cars 7-8 are for executive class.

Paying attention to these announcements will not only help you find your platform but also assist you in locating your designated car more efficiently.

3. Ask a Station Attendant

Sometimes station announcements might be hard to hear due to noise or other distractions. You might also miss them if you're rushing to get to the station.

In these cases, your final resort can be to directly ask a station attendant. There's usually at least one attendant monitoring each platform when a train is due to arrive or depart.

For instance, at Bandung Station, attendants are always positioned at the entrance of each platform. Similarly, at Tugu Station in Yogyakarta, an attendant often holds a pamphlet displaying the name of each arriving train.

Don't hesitate to approach them for help. Once you've confirmed the platform and train, you can proceed to board and find your seat according to your boarding pass.
