12 Essential Facilities Typically Found in Hotel Rooms

Written by Syfa

Selecting a hotel involves more than just considering the location or price; the amenities offered in the room play a significant role in ensuring a comfortable stay.

In this article, we will explore some common facilities that travelers can expect to find in hotel rooms. I hope this article can be useful for those reading this. Stay tuned!

1. Television

TV

Almost every hotel room is equipped with a television for guests' entertainment. These TVs typically offer a variety of international and local channels, so guests can watch movies or stay updated with the latest news and weather.

Hotels often utilize the television to promote their services, such as spa treatments, room service, and other relevant offerings.

2. Telephone

Telephones in hotel rooms facilitate easy communication between guests and hotel staff, including receptionists, housekeeping, and room service.

Guests can also use the in-room phone to connect with other rooms, albeit at an additional charge. Additionally, telephones serve as a convenient way to arrange wake-up calls to ensure that guests don’t miss out on important schedules or activities.

For those who still confuse on how to use this facility, especially if you want to request something to the hotel, please check the article below:

3. AC or Temperature Control

Air Conditioning

Air conditioning is pivotal for maintaining a comfortable room temperature, especially in locations known for their hot and humid climate.

Almost all hotels offer this feature, so guests can adjust the temperature to their liking. A well-maintained AC system also ensures good air circulation, keeping the room air fresh and preventing stuffiness.

4. Tables and Chairs

Whether the room is large or small, there will typically be at least one table and chair for guests. This area usually includes one or two power outlets, which come in handy for charging devices.

Many guests use this space for work, relaxation, or dining. Some hotels even add sofas or couches for extra comfort.

5. Wardrobe

A wardrobe is essential for storing and hanging clothes. Generally, guests are provided with a handful of hangers. Hotel wardrobes come in various styles, some with doors and others open.

There is often a designated area within the wardrobe for storing bags or suitcases. The area can help keep the room organized.

6. Electric Kettle (Water Heater)

Hotels understand that many guests enjoy having hot drinks, so they typically equip rooms with electric kettles or coffee and tea making facilities.

These kettles come with accessories like two glasses and sachets of sugar, coffee, and creamer to make your drink just the way you like it. Additionally, it’s common for hotels to provide two bottles of mineral water for your convenience.

However, hotels committed to sustainable practices opt not to offer bottled mineral water. Instead, they have chosen a more eco-friendly approach by installing water dispensers on each floor near the guest rooms.

Guests are then given a large, refillable water bottle to use for the duration of their stay. These convenient amenities come at no additional charge. If you happen to use all of a provided amenity, rest assured that the housekeeping staff will replenish it by the next day.

7. Mini Fridge

Mini Fridge

Mini fridges are commonly found in 3-star hotels and above. It comes as a handy storage for food and drinks. Premium hotels may stock the fridge with drinks and snacks at an additional cost, which can be settled upon checkout. However, not every hotel, especially those rated below 3 stars, provides this amenity.

8. Safe Deposit Box

Safeguarding valuables is a top priority for guests, which is why a safe deposit box is a crucial amenity in hotel rooms. This facility is available even in two-star hotels. Here, guests can securely store items such as jewelry, important documents, or laptops.

If you are unsure about using it, don't worry; guides and instructions are available in the article below:

9. Toiletries

Every hotel room is equipped with a variety of toiletries located in the shower room. It generally includes soap, shampoo, a pair of toothbrushes with toothpaste, body lotion, a shower cap, cotton buds, and cotton wool.

These items are complimentary and are restocked daily by the housekeeping staff. So, guests can always have access to these essentials. An added bonus is that guests are welcome to take these toiletries home upon checking out – a handy little perk!

Additionally, some hotels are adopting more sustainable practices by offering 2-in-1 soap and shampoo dispensers instead of individually packaged products. And of course, these dispensers will be regularly refilled.

10. Hair Dryer

A hair dryer is one of my favorite amenities, and I always look for it when booking a hotel room. This tool is typically found in higher-end accommodations, especially those rated 4-star and above.

You will usually find the hair dryer stored conveniently in the bathroom, attached to the wall near the toiletries I mentioned earlier.

What’s great about hotel hair dryers is their ease of use – they tend not to have any complicated features.

You simply need to decide whether to use the maximum or minimum voltage. With just two buttons controlling all the functions, using a hotel hair dryer is as easy as can be!

11. Hotel Slippers

Hotel rooms often come with a pair of lightweight, soft slippers. These can be worn within the room or in common areas like the reception, spa, or pool. Some hotels allow guests to take home the disposable slippers as a souvenir.

12. Setrika

While not universally provided, an iron is a valuable amenity for guests looking to spruce up their clothes. Some hotels provide irons in the rooms, while others offer them upon request.

Guests might need to pick up the iron from the front desk or have it delivered to the room. I did the latter during one of my stays in Japan.

In conclusion, these are some of the common facilities that guests can expect in hotel rooms. Each amenity adds to the overall comfort and convenience of the stay, and guests often have their favorites. Feel free to share which amenities are most important to you in the comments below!
