Can You Take The Slippers from Hotel Rooms?

Written by Syfa

Staying in a hotel, particularly during a vacation, is undoubtedly an enjoyable experience. Hotels often feature a range of appealing amenities such as swimming pools, gyms, and children’s playgrounds.

Moreover, guests are provided with various facilities within their rooms, including televisions, electric kettles, among others.

A common question arises, though, about which of these amenities guests are allowed to take home. Specifically, are guests permitted to take home the slippers provided by hotels? Would taking them be considered theft? Let’s dig deeper!

Can Hotel Slippers Be Taken Home?

Hotel slippers are among the numerous amenities provided for guests’ comfort in their rooms. They are available for guests to wear within the room and around the hotel premises, such as in restaurants or the pool area.

So, is it permissible to take hotel slippers home? The answer is not straightforward, as policies vary from hotel to hotel. However, it is often the case that hotels allow guests to take slippers home.

This is largely because hotel slippers are usually made of light, thin material, making them non-durable and unsuitable for use by subsequent guests once worn. Consequently, hotels do not typically view slippers as "valuable" amenities.

Furthermore, the branding on the slippers – usually the hotel’s logo and name – serves as a promotional tool, making hotels more inclined to allow guests to keep them.

That said, there are hotels with distinct policies that offer slippers for sale rather than complimentary use. For instance, during my stay in a hotel in the Legian area of Bali, it was explicitly stated that slippers were not to be taken home without purchase.

The hotel even had the prices listed in the room. This was understandable considering the superior quality and design of the slippers offered.

Given the variability in hotel policies, it’s important for guests to review any available information within the room, whether it be on the table, bed, or any other visible area.

Additionally, guests should not hesitate to inquire with reception or housekeeping staff to get accurate information regarding the hotel’s policies on taking amenities home.

In conclusion, while hotel slippers are often allowed to be taken home due to their disposability and branding purposes, it’s always best practice to confirm with hotel staff or review any in-room guidelines to avoid any misunderstandings.
