How to Reach MRT Station at Changi Airport

Written by Ganjar

One of the things I love about Changi Airport is its impressive variety of transportation choices. From taxis and buses to the MRT, everything is right there at the airport! What makes it even better is how easily accessible these options are.

For many tourists, including myself, the MRT stands out as the go-to transport method. It's a popular choice because it connects to numerous locations throughout Singapore. Another plus is the spaciousness inside the MRT carriages, so you will have no problem to travel with luggage.

In this article, I'll share with you an easy guide on reaching the MRT station at Changi Airport. I hope you find this guide useful and that it can clear up any confusion you might have upon your first arrival at this hub.

From Terminal 2 and 3

The MRT stations at Changi Airport are situated in the basement areas of Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. So, if you land at either of these terminals, you're already close to the station. Here's what you need to do:

1. Follow The Signage

As you leave the immigration and baggage claim, you'll spot a sign that says "Train to City". Follow the signs, and they will lead you to an escalator heading down to the basement.

2. Head Downstairs

Use the escalator to go down to the MRT station. If you have heavy bags or bulky items, there's an elevator nearby for you to use.

3. Get an EZ-Link Card (If you haven't)

At the station, you'll need an EZ-Link card to travel. If you don’t have one, you can buy it from a vending machine or at the Passenger Service Centers near the station entrance.

4. Go to the MRT Platform

Once you have your EZ-Link card, go through the gate and onto the MRT platform. For a guide on how to use the MRT in Singapore, you can read the article below:

Please note, the MRT from Changi stops at two stations - Expo and Tanah Merah. Get off at Expo for the Downtown Line, or at Tanah Merah for the East West Line.

From Terminal 1

If you land at Terminal 1 and want to use the MRT, you'll need to go to Terminal 2 or Terminal 3 first. Luckily, the Skytrain connects all three terminals, so it easy to move between them. Here's what you need to do:

1. Find the Skytrain Platform

Once you leave the immigration and baggage claim area, look for signs marked "Skytrain to T2 & T3". Follow these signs to the Skytrain platform. The Skytrain comes every few minutes, so you won't have to wait long.

2. Board the Skytrain

When the Skytrain arrives, you can get on board. Remember to board in an orderly way and give space to those getting off the Skytrain. Also, it's worth noting that the Skytrain is free to use, so you don't need an EZ-Link card for it.

3. Alight at Terminal 2 or 3

The Skytrain ride to Terminal 2 or Terminal 3 takes just a few minutes. When you get there, exit the Skytrain and follow the instructions mentioned above for getting to the MRT Station from Terminals 2 and 3.

From Terminal 4

Terminal 4 is the only terminal at Changi Airport that is not connected to the Skytrain. However, there's no need to worry as a free shuttle bus is available. Here's how to use it:

1. Find the Shuttle Bus Pick-Up Area

After you finish with immigration and baggage claim, look for signs that say "Bus to T1, T3, & Jewel". These will guide you to the shuttle bus area. Once there, you can relax while waiting for the bus to Terminal 3, where the MRT station is located.

2. Board the Shuttle Bus

When the shuttle bus to Terminal 3 arrives, get on in an organized way. You don't need to use an EZ-Link card as the shuttle service is free. The journey to Terminal 3 takes about 10 minutes.

3. Arrive at Terminal 3

Upon reaching Terminal 3, disembark from the bus and follow the previously mentioned instructions to reach the MRT station.

From Jewel

Jewel is a shopping mall in the Changi Airport area that is very popular with tourists. Now if you want to go to the MRT Station after you're done sightseeing or playing at Jewel, you have two options:

Firstly, you can take the Skytrain from Terminal 1, which is next to Jewel. Just walk over to Terminal 1 and catch the Skytrain to either Terminal 2 or 3.

Alternatively, you can walk via the Link Bridge that connects Jewel to Terminals 2 and 3. This bridge is convenient as it has travelators, making your walk less tiring.
