How to Take the Sentosa Express to Get to Sentosa Island

Written by Ganjar

There are many ways to get to Sentosa Island in Singapore, including taxis, buses, and trains. One of the most popular options is the Sentosa Express.

The Sentosa Express is a monorail that connects Sentosa Island with mainland Singapore, with several stops near popular tourist spots on the island.

The starting station is at VivoCity shopping mall, the only station on the mainland. So, to take the Sentosa Express to Sentosa Island, you need to start at VivoCity.

In this article, I will walk you through the steps to board the Sentosa Express if it's your first time

1. Go to VivoCity Shopping Mall

Vivo City

First, head to VivoCity Shopping Mall. You can get to VivoCity by MRT, bus, or other transportation methods.

If you’re taking the MRT, use the Circle Line (orange) or North East Line (purple) and get off at HarbourFront Station, located on the lower floor of VivoCity.

If you prefer the bus, take one that stops at HarbourFront Stn/Vivocity. There are many bus options, including numbers 10, 30, 30e, 57, 61, 65, 80, 97, 97e, 100, 123M, 13, 143, 145, 166, and 855.

2. Go Up to the 3rd Floor

Once you arrive at VivoCity, the next step is to head to the Sentosa Express station, located on the 3rd floor, the top floor of VivoCity.

If you're taking the MRT, just follow the signs directing you to the Sentosa Express station and go up a few floors. If you're coming by bus, enter VivoCity Mall and head straight to the 3rd floor.

When you reach the 3rd floor, you'll spot the entrance to the station marked "VivoCity Station" with a noticeable orange decoration. There's also a ticket counter nearby with a fairly long queue line.

3. Buy Tickets or Prepare Your Payment Card

Besides tickets, you can also use payment cards like EZ-Link, NETS, Mastercard, and Visa to ride the Sentosa Express. The fare deducted from these payment cards is the same as if you bought a ticket.

4. Enter the Platform

After buying your ticket or prepping your payment card, just scan the ticket or tap the card at the gate. It works the same way as the MRT gates in Singapore.

Once you're through, wait for the Sentosa Express train to arrive. During busy times, there might be a lot of passengers, so the attendant will organize everyone into groups. Just follow their directions to board smoothly.

5. Get on the Train

When the train arrives, simply step inside. There are only a few seats available, so it's best to leave them for passengers with special needs.

In just a few minutes, the train will arrive at different stations on Sentosa Island. There are usually announcements at each stop, so listen for your destination.

For your return trip to VivoCity on the Sentosa Express, you can ride for free without needing another ticket. The same goes for moving between stations within Sentosa Island; it's free.

That's how you board the Sentosa Express to get to Sentosa Island. Easy, right?
