How to Transit through Changi Airport: A Guide

Written by Ganjar

Changi Airport in Singapore is among the world's busiest airports, offering flights from a wide range of airlines to various destinations. As a result, many travelers find themselves transiting through Changi Airport to connect to their next flight.

Transiting at Changi Airport is more than just a quick change of planes. Visitors are presented with an array of exciting facilities to explore to ensure an engaging and enjoyable wait for their next flight.

However, due to the airport's large size, some passengers may find it challenging to navigate during their transit. Incorrect directions could lead to missing a connecting flight, as it's easy to end up further from the intended gate.

In this article, I will guide you through the process of transiting at Changi Airport. This information aims to help you navigate the transit smoothly and make the most of the airport's fascinating facilities.

1. Arriving at Changi Airport

Changi Airport is home to four terminals. Terminals 1, 2, and 3 primarily host full-service airlines like Singapore Airlines, Turkish Airline, Garuda Indonesia, etc. Meanwhile, Terminal 4 is mostly used by low cost carriers such as Air Asia and Lion Air.

When your plane arrives, it will dock at one of these terminals. To ensure you know where you are, you can ask a flight attendant or an airport official which terminal you have landed at. This information is crucial to avoid going in the wrong direction.

Setelah berada di dalam terminal, silakan ikuti arah dari papan petunjuk yang bertuliskan "Transfer". Petunjuk tersebut akan mengarahkan kita ke counter transit alias transfer lounge terdekat yang ada di terminal tersebut.

2. Getting to the Transit Counter

When you reach the transfer lounge, if you don't already have a boarding pass for your next flight, you can print it there. This is also the place where you can manage any luggage you brought on your flight.

However, if you already have your boarding pass for the next flight, you can head straight to the boarding gate, bypassing the transfer lounge. But, if you're unsure about where your boarding gate is, you can find this information in the transfer lounge.

3. Getting to the Boarding Gate

Once you have your boarding pass and know where your next flight's gate is, you can head straight there. If your gate is in the same terminal, walking there is easy.

But, if your gate is in a different terminal, you'll need to switch terminals. To do this, you can either take the Skytrain or the Shuttle Bus, depending on where your gate is located.

  • Between Terminals 1, 2, and 3

If your current location is in Terminal 1, 2, or 3 and your departure gate is also within these terminals, the Skytrain is your best option. Look for signs that say "Skytrain to T1, T2, or T3" to find the Skytrain platform.

The Skytrain arrives regularly, just a few minutes apart. When it's ready, you can board the train. Remember, using the Skytrain to move between terminals is free.

  • To and From Terminal 4

If you're in Terminal 4, or if your destination gate is there while you're in Terminals 1, 2, or 3, you should use the Shuttle Bus.

Note that the shuttle bus for transit passengers is different from the one for general passengers. To find the right shuttle bus pick-up point, follow the signs located in the Transfer Lounge.

4. Waiting for Airplane Departure

Once you reach your destination terminal, you can head directly to your gate to wait for your flight. However, if there's a long wait before boarding, Changi Airport offers plenty to explore.

The airport features a range of fascinating amenities, including cinemas, snooze lounges, children's playgrounds, themed parks, and more. You'll also find numerous restaurants and branded stores throughout the airport.

If your next flight is more than six hours away, you have the option to leave the airport and explore nearby attractions like Jewel or other interesting spots in Singapore. For ideas on what to do during your transit in Singapore, you might want to check out additional articles.
